May 12-16
Religion:
This week in religion we will discuss the kingdom of God and the life of
the world to come. We will also explore Mary’s role in the church.
Social Studies:
For the next two weeks, students will be doing some research in the
classroom. They will be researching different inventors/inventions from
the Industrial Revolution. Their research will be turned into a
brochure to ‘sell’ the invention to the class.
Science:
Next week we will continue our unit on plants. We will identify the
role of plants in the daily diet and as medicine. On Wednesday, we will
go to the computer lab to view vascular and nonvascular plants under the
proscopes. Proscopes are digital microscopes that run through the
computer. The plant test will be Monday, May 19.
Math:
Students will begin learning how to multiply decimals by whole numbers
and decimals by decimals. They will also make circle graphs with class
data about their favorite sport. We will continue to practice and test
on the basic facts. Many students are already on the division facts and
some are working in the 12s.
Reading and Writing:
We will briefly review the comprehension strategies that we focused
on during this last theme. On Tuesday, we will take the theme test. We
will then spend a few weeks reading a whole class book and working on
elements of a story.
Grammar: We will continue to work on the grammar contract. Each student
will be given the requirements to earn a 1, 2, or 3 in 8 different
grammar topics. Students will have some class time to work on these,
but some may come home for homework.
Technology:
Below are a few links for your student to practice keyboarding at home.

Memorare
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that
anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help or sought your
intercession was left unaided. Inspired with confidence, I fly to you, O
virgin of virgins, my Mother. To you I come, before you I stand, sinful
and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions,
but in your mercy, hear and answer me.
Amen.
