~There are some changes we have made
to our spelling lists, please see below to get a copy of the letter. Thanks!
~There has been a change regarding
P.E. shoes: Please send your child in their P.E. shoes on the appropriate
days. (Scroll down to see your child's schedule) They no longer need to keep
an extra pair in their locker. Thanks!
~We recommend sending an extra pair
of clothes that your child can also keep in their locker!! Thanks!

~Please make sure you refer to our Back To School
Night packet for questions you may have regarding Super Star. It is a little
different then kindergarten, parents will be able to join their child for
lunch and recess only and not the actual presentation. If you are meeting
your child for Super Star, you may wait for them by the lunchroom at 11:45!

Daily Reading
Logs
Please click on the picture for a copy of the reading
log sheets. Your child should be reading to or with you for 20 minutes every
night. You can put your initials next to the days and turn them in at the
end of each month.
Handwriting Without
Tears
Please click on the big picture above
to get a copy of our letter to parents regarding our Handwriting Without
Tears letter the second and third pictures to get a copy of letter formation
for capitals and lowercase letters!
Homework
We ask
each first graders to read 20 minutes each night.
This can
mean reading alone or with an adult. Please initial the reading log
and return to school at the end of each month.
Also please make sure they are
practicing the following:
- (+) (-) Math facts or
flashcards
- Spelling Words
- Family Faith Activity
- Prayers
- Writing
Field Trips / Guest Speakers
- Reiman Gardens
- Blank Park Zoo
- Ledges State Park
- Junior Achievement (WE NEED VOLUNTEERS!!!!)
- WDM Public Works and Fire Department
Spelling Tests
First
grade will begin spelling tests in October. Students will
bring 10 words home a week. The first eight
words revolve around a specific sound or blend. The last two
words are teacher choice.
We
will take a pretest on Monday which will determine whether your child will
take the test on the original list or the challenge list on Friday. If
your child misses 0, 1 or 2 words on the pretest, they will have the
challenge list but still be required to know the words missed on the
pretest. These words missed will be included on their practice sheet sent
home on Monday. Please have your child study
these each night. Tests will be on Friday.

graders practice their prayers during the day. Here are a
list of
prayers they need to know. We encourage you to practice them as a family.
