We have been researching a new website used for
students to practice their spelling words. The website is called
http://www.spellingcity.com
and has been recommended to us by other teachers in the diocese.
We have started uploading the students' words for each week that they
all have in common. If you want to find the list, you would use
the "find a list" category and type in the name on the upper right hand
side of your child's spelling list. For example, our Week 10 list
would be found under 10A/10B on the website. Once you have found
the list, your child can play games that use their words. You can
also register yourself and type in all sixteen words your child has
chosen.

Mrs. Nitzel has introduced the website,
www.freerice.com to the third
grade students. It is a website the kids can use to donate rice to
hungry people by answering questions about vocabulary. They have
explored the website at school, but many of them have asked if they
could use the website at home, too.
The third graders are responsible for learning The
Confiteor as well
as The Nicene Creed. To access these prayers, click on the
links below.
Mrs. Joslin has been introducing Google Earth to the
third grade students. To get this at home, there is a free
download located at Google Earth. The website is
http://earth.google.com/ if
you would like to do this.
Handwriting Without Tears has a great website to help
explain the theory behind the program. You can also find a visual
of the manuscript and cursive alphabets. Below you will find a
link to their website.

One of the ways we teach comprehension in third grade
is through the use of the nonfiction magazine, National Geographic
Explorer. There are many activities the students can do after
we have finished the magazine in class. Below you will find a link
to the website for extension activities dealing with the topics in the
magazine.

A website that offers many different
activities in all areas is funbrain.com. Your child will be able
to review and practice many skills by playing different games on this
site. Use the game finder to help find an activity that would help
your child.
