Fine Arts - Parochial Athletics - Enrichment

FINE ARTS

Opportunities for developing the fine arts are presented to students at St. Francis of Assisi School through curricular (requirements during the academic day), co-curricular (requirements during the academic day and requirements outside of the academic day), and extra curricular experiences (requirements outside of the academic day setting).

VISUAL ARTS - Students in grades one through six participate in art class once a week.  Kindergarten students participate in art class once a week.

GENERAL MUSIC- Students in grades Kindergarten through Eighth grade participate in general music instruction.  Students learn about music through singing, movement, playing instruments, listening, and studying the relationship between music, history, and culture.  Each class grades also prepares music for a Celebration of Mass.

INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC - St. Francis of Assisi offers band for students beginning in grade five.  Band is not in the St. Francis School general budget and parents must pay for instruction.  Band fees and tuition pay for private lessons and a large group band experience.  Solo and ensemble opportunities are also available for band students.  Private lessons are offered weekly during the school day along with 2 group rehearsals.  Students involved in band are held to curricular standards and benchmarks.  Band is an intellectual and artistic activity as evidenced by placement of instruction during the academic day.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Grades one through six have a scheduled time for physical education classes twice each week.  Kindergarten students participate in PE once a week.  Students are excused from classes only with a note from a doctor or parent.  All students should wear appropriate clothing and tennis shoes on PE days.  Middle school students are required to dress for PE.
