Extracurricular enrichment
clubs and programs are valuable in developing a child's
interests and potential talents. All SFA students are
invited to participate in or join activities available to
them that align with their interests and talents. To
help guide students to suitable clubs, resources and
programs, students in grades 2-8 complete an interest
survey. The Enrichment teacher will also be conferring
with teachers and looking at test scores in individual
subject areas (such as science or social studies) to
identify students who would benefit from some small group
instruction or outside activities in those areas.
Activities may include and
are not limited to:
Mock Trial--Challenging
academic competition that introduces students to the
American legal system--open to middle school students.
Battle of the Books--Students
who enjoy reading join and form teams, read 5 or more
books each and then compete together in a competition in
March. This
contest is open to middle school students. Click

Thinking Cap Quiz Bowl--Challenging
multiple choice quiz contest for fifth and sixth grade
students over varied categories,
completed as a team on the computer.
National History Day--Contest
where middle school students research historical topics as they relate to
theme then create a product for competition.

Heartland Student
Technology Fair--Technology Project Fair with 7
different categories
Odyssey of the Mind--Problem
solving and team building competition with an emphasis on

National Geographic Bee--An
entertaining and challenging test of geographic knowledge
designed to spark student interest in the subject and
increase public awareness about geography using materials
prepared by the National Geographic Society. Students
in grades four through eight participate in the Geography

Knights of Columbus
Spelling Bee--Spelling competition for students in
grades four through seven. See

School Speech and Debate Jr. High Invitational--Speech
tournament which introduces students to the basic techniques
of stylized speaking such as extemporaneous speaking, duo
